Grayslake fire does minor damage

No one was hurt in an early morning house fire in Grayslake, authorities said Wednesday.

The blaze at 708 N. Alleghany was discovered about 6:30 a.m. Flames and smoke were visible at the rear of the home when police and firefighters arrived, Grayslake police spokesman Cmdr. Matt McCutcheon said.

A rear deck burned, too, authorities said.

The residents were evacuated safely, McCutcheon said.

The cause of the blaze was not immediately known, but it did not appear suspicious, he said.

Damage was estimated at about $10,000, firefighters said.
