Measure would aid world's women

The Global Resources and Opportunities for Women to Thrive Act (GROWTH) is a landmark piece of legislation that would expand economic opportunities for poor women worldwide.

I am happy to report that Congressman Mark Kirk is one of its co-sponsors in the House of Representatives.

Kirk understands that in the developing world, women are in desperate straits. Many times, they lack the resources and training to support themselves.

The GROWTH Act would work to change that. It would assist desperately poor women by helping them develop their own businesses, expand their property rights, increase their access to financial services and improve their employment conditions and compensation.

The rights and successes that American women enjoy are a distant dream for many women in the developing world.

Thanks to Kirk, poor women in around the world will be able to rise out of poverty and take care of themselves and their families.
