National Homeless Animals Day coming

National Homeless Animals Day, which is Aug. 16, will have more than one event in our circulation areas. It starts with Orphans of the Storm's annual Pooch Parade from 9 a.m. to noon at Jaycee Memorial Park on Wilmot Road in Deerfield. Bring your canine friend for the annual dog walk for $20 per walker. There will be prizes plus treats for the walker and his dog.

Go to the Web site at www.orphansofthestorm.org to print out a pledge card and raise even more money for the animals when you walk. Orphans of the Storm is at 2200 Riverwoods Road, Riverwoods. For more information, call (847) 945-0235, e-mail jborchew@orphansofthestorm.org or call (847) 602-8508.

In Palatine, Young at Heart Pet Rescue will have an evening of fun at Palatine Park District's dog park on the grounds of Harper College. Finale will feature a candlelight vigil honoring the animals that have brought so much joy to so many. This event will benefit the rescue group that finds homes for mature animals. Some items were missed during July, for which I am sorry, but mention was made more than once about deadlines for July. Yes, I was back in Oklahoma. It was hot!
