St. Charles cops reaccredited:

The St. Charles police department has been reaccredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies for the sixth time. The commission completed its on-site inspection May 7, which examined all aspects of the police department. Over five days the assessors reviewed policies and procedures, management operations and support services of the department. The police department received its reaccreditation July 26 and it's good for three years.

Prosecutor going to DeKalb:

A prosecutor is leaving his position in Kane County after seven years to become first assistant state's attorney in DeKalb County, officials announced this week. Bill Engerman, 45, joined the Kane County state's attorney's office in 2001 and was lead prosecutor in the recent convictions of two Aurora gang leaders charged a 1989 murder. In a statement, Kane County State's Attorney John Barsanti said his office is "sad to lose a lawyer of such skill, determination and professionalism."

Jail tours planned:

The new Kane County jail and sheriff's office will be open for tours during a public open house from noon to 6 p.m. today. The 640-bed jail and office are at 37W777 Route 38, St. Charles. The facilities also will be open for public tours from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday as part of National Night Out Against Crime. For more information, call (630) 232-6840.

Mooseheart fundraiser:

The Claddagh Irish Pub at Geneva Commons on Randall Road in Geneva will have a fundraiser for Mooseheart, the Child City, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday. Twenty percent of proceeds will be donated to Mooseheart. Former Chicago Bears football player Steve McMichael will be the celebrity bartender; four bands will perform, including a Bon Jovi tribute band; Miss Illinois will visit; and Irish step dancers will perform at 11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Township brush pickup:

St. Charles Township's next brush pickup date is Aug. 11. Residents should call the township road district office at (630) 584-3496 by Friday and leave their address if they have brush to be picked up.
