Pedestrian killed by freight train ID'd

Authorities have identified a 24-year-old man struck and killed by a freight train as he walked along railroad tracks on DeKalb's west side.

The DeKalb County Coroner's Office says David Molitor was hit by a Union Pacific Railroad train at about 1:20 a.m. Saturday. He was pronounced dead at the scene about an hour later.

The DeKalb Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances of the accident.

The (DeKalb) Daily Chronicle reports that Saturday's incident was the 13th train accident in DeKalb County since 2006. It says nine have resulted in deaths and seven of those resulted from pedestrians on the railway tracks. The two others were collisions with vehicles.
