Road work ahead for Buffalo Grove
As part of a state legislative agreement to use part of a sales tax increase for transportation improvements, Buffalo Grove residents can look forward to more road construction and improvements by Lake County over the next several years.
County board member David Stolman outlined several of the projects at the Buffalo Grove village board meeting this week.
"It's all pluses for Buffalo Grove," he said.
The road projects include:
• Concrete patching on Arlington Heights Road from Alden Lane to Lake-Cook Road, scheduled for 2009 construction at a cost of $1.5 million.
• Adding a southbound lane to Buffalo Grove Road between Deerfield Parkway and Route 83 in 2009 at a cost of $900,000.
• Adding lanes to Route 45 from Route 21 to Route 83 in 2011 at a cost of $35 million.
• Widening Aptakisic Road to four lanes from Buffalo Grove Road to Route 83 in 2015 at a cost of $11.8 million.
• Widening Buffalo Grove Road to four lanes from Route 22 to Deerfield Parkway in 2017 at a cost of $7.3 million.
• Extending Weiland Road from Aptakisic to Prairie roads in 2017 at a cost of $2.6 million. The road projects are part of a bill out of Springfield that increased the sales tax in Cook and suburban counties to pay for mass transit. The state raised the sales tax July 1 by 0.25 percent in Cook County and 0.5 percent in Lake County. County officials are allowed to use their share of the money for transportation and public safety.
