Campton Hills gets its first bank heist in town

Campton Hills has had many firsts since the Kane County village first incorporated last year.

On Saturday, the town of about 10,000 people just west of St. Charles had the dubious distinction of experiencing its first bank robbery.

Campton Hills Police said a man between the ages of 25 and 30 walked into the Old Second National Bank, located at 40W422 North Ave., at 11:30 a.m. and gave a teller a note announcing the robbery.

The man brandished a weapon and received an undisclosed sum of money before fleeing westbound on foot from the bank, police said.

The suspect was described by witnesses to be about five feet, nine inches tall with either brown or blonde hair, and wearing a bright yellow long-sleeve pullover jacket with an upper zipper with either a dark blue or black baseball hat.

Nobody in the bank was injured.

Campton Hills Police Chief Gregory Anderson was measured in describing the latest milestone in the village's brief history.

"I'm kind of at a loss," Anderson said. "It's one of those things that happen in big towns, as well as small ones across the country. We're just glad it hasn't happened until now."

Anderson said he didn't know the last time a bank was robbed in the vicinity now encompassed by the village borders. Campton Hills was first incorporated in April 2007 after winning incorporation rights following a successful referendum.
