Chicago police officer dies from wounds
An off-duty police detective, who along with a female friend was found inside a sport-utility vehicle shot several times, has died.
Authorities say 49-year-old Robert Soto, a 23-year veteran of the Chicago police force, was shot early Wednesday in an apparent robbery on Chicago's West Side. Soto was pronounced dead at Mt. Sinai Hospital early Thursday.
Forty-five-year-old Kathryn Romberg was also found in the SUV. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said Soto and Romberg had no relationship. However, they gave no additional information about what the two were doing at the time of the shooting.
Romberg worked in the Illinois Department of Child and Family Services and was a part-time real estate agent.
Police spokeswoman Officer Amina Greer said the investigation into the shooting is continuing.
