U.S. Marshals catch fugitive in Chicago

The U.S. Marshals say a Mississippi man who was on the agency's "15 Most Wanted" list has been captured in Chicago.

Elliot Evans Stamps is charged with kidnapping, aggravated assault and armed robbery for a hammer attack on a woman in April 2007.

Marshals said Monday that Stamps was arrested Sunday outside a home on Chicago's South Side.

Stamps appeared in court Monday and waived extradition. He's being held at Cook County Jail.

They say the agency's Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force learned last week Stamps was in the Kankakee, Illinois, area. They then tracked him to Chicago and conducted surveillance until his arrest.

The 38-year-old is accused of beating a 55-year-old woman with a hammer and then stabbing her several times. She survived.

It's not clear if Stamps has an attorney.
