Man stabbed to death in Rockford

Authorities in Rockford are releasing few details about the stabbing death of a 27-year-old man who was found dying on a street corner just west of the downtown area.

Deputy Police Chief Theo Glover says officers responding to a domestic disturbance report found the victim lying on the pavement about 1 a.m. Sunday.

He was taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead -- apparently of a single stab wound to the chest.

Glover declined to release the victim's identity pending notification of his family.

The man's death was the 10th homicide of the year in Rockford, and the first of the summer months.

Last year, 20 homicides were reported in Rockford.
