Fire expecting McBride for Friday's practice

The U.S. men's Olympic soccer team's bad fortune is good news for the Chicago Fire.

Wednesday's 2-1 U.S. loss to Nigeria means the Americans are eliminated from the Olympic tournament, freeing the players to return to their clubs.

U.S. striker Brian McBride, acquired by the Fire just before the Olympics, is scheduled to practice with the Fire on Friday. There's no word yet if he will play in Saturday night's home match against D.C. United, but McBride said when he signed that he planned to jump right into action with the Fire immediately after the Olympics.

However, McBride played 90 minutes Wednesday and must take the long flight back from China, so it's questionable whether the 36-year-old would play more than 20-30 minutes Saturday.
