Feds OK $9 million in flood aid

Federal authorities say they have approved more than $9.7 million in disaster assistance grants for Illinois residents who suffered damages and losses from the severe storms and flooding that struck the state between June 1 and July 22.

The grants come from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the U.S. Small Business Administration. Authorities said Sunday that 2,817 Illinois homeowners and renters from the 18 designated counties had so far applied for the disaster assistance.

The deadline to register for such aid is Aug. 25.
