Each 'Round Lake' a separate entity
I was surprised to see a headline in Friday's paper that read "Round Lake man pleads guilty to molesting girls." This was not something I was aware of, so I started to read the story. The first line of the article itself reads "A Round Lake Beach man faces up to 14 years in prison..." There are four different villages that have the words "Round Lake" in their names. They are Round Lake Beach, Round Lake Heights, Round Lake Park and the village of Round Lake. Each one has its own mayor, trustees, village hall, etc. While they share geographic proximity, they are unique, separate municipal entities and should be treated as such in the press. Whether the news is positive or negative, the Herald should show journalistic integrity and correctly identify a subject's town, even if it means adding 5 more letters to a headline. Or, if you don't want to be specific, then write "A Round Lake area man...," or "A Lake County resident..." Almost 17,000 residents are proud to live in a town that celebrates its centennial this year. We deserve to be properly recognized and identified as the Village of Round Lake.
