Rock Island man gets 40 years for stabbing death

ROCK ISLAND _ A Rock Island man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for the stabbing death of his girlfriend, whose body was found on New Year's Day 2007.

Forty-four-year-old Steven Douglas Hill pleaded guilty Friday in the death of 28-year-old Lashaune Wright.

Hill's trial was scheduled for next week. Public defender Baron Heintz has said that Hill had mental problems but he'd be fit to stand trial.

Wright naked and mutilated body was found on New Year's Day morning on a sidewalk behind the home the couple shared. Authorities say a man called police to report someone not breathing at the house.

Wright was a mother of two.
