Save the planet; stop eating meat

With global warming in the news, I think "going green" is one of the most important things we can do because the future of our grandchildren depend on the decisions we make today.

I recycle everything I can, bought those energy efficient light bulbs and own a fuel efficient car.

However, I think the best thing I did was to go veg.

According to the EPA, waste from Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFO) is the leading cause of our soil and water pollution, and a UN report says that CAFOs are responsible for 18 percent of the global warming.

So I chose to not support this system by not buying their products or going to fast food restaurants.

And a side effect of my going veg is that I am healthier for it. I went veg 16 years ago at age 50.

My weight, cholesterol, blood pressure and sugar level is good, while most of my friends in my age group are having a problem with one or more of these. I don't have to take any medications.

People who continue to support CAFO products seem to be in denial about the health risks and the effects on global warming.

This needs to change if we are to help save the planet.
