No offense taken at being called a goat

Several months ago I had an exchange with two people who objected to a school superintendent calling his students "kids". They insisted that "kids" referred only to young goats. I pointed out that Merriam-Webster also defines "kid" as meaning "child, youngster". They refused to acknowledge that meaning and insisted the superintendent was wrong.

Recently I watched the old four-star classic movie, "Casablanca". I noticed that at least four times in this film Humphrey Bogart says to Ingrid Bergman, "Here's looking at you, kid." Somehow Ingrid never gets angry at being called a "young goat". Check it out. I'm not kidding.
