Tour of Elk Grove gives to vets

This month's Alexian Brothers Tour of Elk Grove raised $11,000 for veterans and their families. Of the total, $5,500 went to the Heart of a Marine Foundation, Mayor Craig Johnson said. The foundation was formed by the parents of Marine Lance Cpl. Phillip Frank, of Elk Grove Village, who was killed in Iraq in 2004. The other $5,500 will go toward the village's Fallen Soldiers Memorial Fund which provides scholarships in memory of the four soldiers - all with Elk Grove Village ties, who have been killed since 2004. Money also goes to soldiers' families in need of financial help.

Library to discuss expansion

The Barrington Area Library District board of trustees will hold a special meeting tonight to discuss financial details of its upcoming expansion project. With plans for a Nov. 4 referendum, trustees will use the special meeting to determine just how much to ask for from library district residents. Last month, library officials announced plans for a 42,000-square-foot addition at the district's main facility at 505 N. Northwest Hwy. If approved, the expansion would include a children's pavilion, meeting rooms, quiet adult areas, outdoor programing space, a 24-hour service window and a cafe. The plan also calls for a new, two-story parking deck. The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the library.
