Don't just blame priests

When I first began reading Bob Meyer's recent letter in the Fencepost, I thought, OK, here we go again. Should I respond? Nah, been there, done that. Then I read his last couple of lines.

Shouldn't have added those, Bob; ya got my dander up, and now I've gotta respond to your letter in its entirety.

First of all, what does the issue of sexual abuse by priests have to do with abortion? Second, are you truly upset with the sexual abuse of children by anyone - or just priests?

You do know that there is a huge problem with public school teachers sexually abusing America's children, don't you, Bob? The number of cases dwarfs those involving priests, and it is ongoing to this day. Yes, there are still cases occurring involving priests as well, but the numbers are minuscule in comparison. None of it is to be tolerated, regardless of the perp. Next time you gripe about priests, maybe you could mention public school teachers as well.

Now then, let's discuss those pictures you're so upset about. How is it that so many of you folks on the pro-abort side of the fence can so clearly see exposing pictures of aborted fetuses to children as abuse worthy of criminal charges, while simultaneously being totally blind to the practice that makes those pictures possible in the first place, and on children that may well be not much younger than those you seem to want to protect?

In closing, are you now printing up thousands of posters of offending public school teachers, Bob? If not, are you sure you don't want to rethink that bit about "self-righteous hypocrites?"
