Coins, memorial for disabled vets

Veterans who have been permanently disabled in service to our country deserve special recognition and honors. Last week Congressman Mark Kirk made sure that those heroes will get both.

On July 17 Kirk's "American Veterans Disabled for Life Commemorative Coin Act" was signed into law. Coins commemorating disabled veterans will now be minted and sold. All proceeds will go toward constructing a new memorial in Washington, D.C. dedicated to disabled veterans.

We can never thank our veterans enough, especially those who became disabled while protecting our freedom. But that doesn't mean we should not try. The commemorative coins and the memorial they will fund will be physical signs of our gratitude. I am proud that it is my representative who made them possible.
