Truck, bus crash closes Aptakisic in Lincolnshire

Aptakisic Road in Lincolnshire was closed down for about an hour after a landscaping truck slammed into an empty school bus at about 7 a.m. Friday morning, Lincolnshire police officials said.

The Laidlaw school bus was pulling out of a bus storage area at the corner of Industrial Drive and Aptakisic when it was hit in the side by the pick-up truck, said Sgt. Anne Marie Blaz of the Lincolnshire Police Department.

Blaz said she did not have the names of the people involved in the accident, but said the names would be released later Friday.

The driver of the pick-up was in the outer lane of traffic on the busy road and did not see a community service police officer at the intersection directing traffic allowing the buses to pull out.

Blaz added the bus was leaving to pick up kids for school when the accident took place. The bus is used by the elementary school and high school districts in the area.

The driver of the bus and a passenger in the pick-up were transported from the scene to Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with non-life threatening injuries, Blaz said.

The driver of the pick up was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, she added.
