Determined to keep term limits
The city officials of Des Plaines are at their old shenanigans again. I guess they think we taxpayers and voters are stupid and have no memory.
We taxpayers worked hard and got a referendum put on the ballot just 10 short years ago to limit their terms of serving, and now because they don't want to leave office they want to put it back on the ballot and reverse the law.
I have news for them. I know many people and speak to them and they are all angry about them wanting to reverse it. We want the term limits left on the books because eight years is long enough for anyone, and in many cases four years is too long for a person.
We want it to remain on the books because if it's taken off we will have the same thing as Chicago and Rosemont where it becomes a dictatorship. As it is our votes don't seem to count for much anymore. It seems whatever the Des Plaines mayor and his cronies want they somehow manage to settle everything behind closed doors.
It was the same thing with this matter of the term limits being reversed. We had to get the required signatures to get it on the ballot which we did get. Last November they had some people trying to get signatures but most were not acceptable when they were checked, and I'll tell you why. The people who were collecting the signatures were so incompetent it was pitiful. I got stopped coming out of one of our stores and the person just shoved the clipboard in my face and said, "Here sign this." I asked what it was for and she said "to do away with the term limits" and I told her "Oh, no we just voted them in 10 years ago."
She never asked if I even lived in Des Plaines nor did she ask if I was a registered voter. I guess they figured they would get away with it.
Well, it doesn't work that way, and I already have a campaign going to vote against it.
