Ballot vacancy filled:

Shirley Rauschenberger, a longtime Elgin woman and mother of one-time State Sen. Steve Rauschenberger, has been tapped to run for the Kane County Board District 20 seat. Kane County GOP chairman Mike Kenyon said the party turned in paperwork for the 81-year-old Elgin woman to appear on the November ballot. The move was needed after Larry Wegman, the GOP nominee, withdrew from the race this week, citing increased family responsibilities. The Democratic nominee is Christina Castro; Julie Schmitt is the Green Party candidate. "She has Elgin and Kane County in her heart," Kenyon said of Rauschenberger. "You can't buy that. You can't make it."
