Stocks end higher, extending last week's gains

NEW YORK -- Stocks have ended the day higher but well off their peak after the price of crude oil pulled off its lows and the Federal Reserve said more banks are tightening lending standards.

The market's latest advance built on last week's gains, which also came on a decline in oil prices. But a Fed report on bank lending reminded investors that the financial sector remains troubled.

The Dow Jones industrials are ending up 48 at the 11,782 level.
