"Ballet Shoes"

Based on Neil Streatfield's novel, Sandra Goldbacher's 2007 British made-for-TV movie stars Emma Watson as one of three orphans struggling to survive in 1930s London while searching for their father. Not screened for local critics. Not rated. 84 minutes. Tickets cost $8.50 for adults, $6 seniors and kids 2-11. Visit classiccinemas.com.

7 p.m. Tuesday at the Charlestowne 18 in St. Charles and the York in Elmhurst.

"My Winnipeg"

Guy Maddin, Canada's strangest cinematic export, presents a hallucinogenic memoir of his hometown of Winnipeg, Canada, complete with frozen horse heads protruding out of an icy river. If you've never seen a Maddin movie, usually stuffed with silent-movie narrative devices and a healthy sense of surrealism, remember to come with your mind pried wide-open. A discussion follows the film. Tickets cost $9; $5 for members. (630)-534-4528 or afterhoursfilmsociety.com.

7:30 p.m. Monday at the Tivoli Theater, 5021 Highland Ave., Downers Grove
