Islam hasn't even existed 5,000 years

You should inspect the accuracy of facts in letters to editor. Inaccuracies make the newspaper look bad.

Example, Daily Herald, Aug. 12, "Our troops, not pols, are the heroes," states the Bible teaches that the Sunnis and the Shiites have been fighting for 5000 years.

This is impossible. Islam arose through the work of the prophet Mohammed around 630 AD and the Sunnis arose around 750 AD with the teaching that leadership was in the hands of the Muslim community at large while the Shiites teach that leadership and authority go back to Mohammed, his son-in-law Ali, and 12 people who understand the true meaning of the Koran.
