Elgin parking ban just won't work
I would like to know who is going to dig out the cars on the side of the street that gets plowed in when we have a snow storm? Also where do I put the leaves? I can't afford that many bags - do I have to now rake them on the side that does not have parking that day?
The amount of driveways that are going to be blocked are going to keep our police too busy. They block them now as it is ... can you imagine when they try to stuff as many as possible between the driveways?
Who is not thinking these things out? Why would anyone have such a silly parking ban? If there is going to be one, it makes more sense to ban parking on the streets for all during certain hours. Why do we have to be punished for the ones who over crowd the homes and streets?
Time and money would be better spent enforcing the single family home codes. Those that have so many cars that they can't park in their own drives may want to consider that before they purchase more. It should be mandatory that there is off-street parking for apartments and private homes. Our streets look like used car lots.
Why do we always hear about this after the fact? Not all have access to the Internet or get the papers. How about some fliers to our homes for info and opinions? They did it for the city wanting to know about how we felt about safety. There could also be a page on line at the city Web site to inform those that get access to the Internet about what is going on and maybe vote. We can't all make these meetings - especially if we don't know about them.
