Spay/neuter is to stop suffering

The letter from Mr. O'Reilly of Chicago disparaging Mayor Daley's effort to support spaying and neutering is ill-informed. Daley's effort is laudable. If a person researches the spay/neuter topic, he or she will hopefully understand why steps are being taken to reduce the unwanted domestic animal population - it is to prevent potentially needless suffering. Since they can't lobby for themselves, these animals deserve all the support they can get.
