Thanks for support of garden club walk
Members of the Elmhurst Garden Club awoke early on July 13 to a perfect midsummer day for the 13th annual Garden Walk and Faire. As Walk chair Marilyn Arado proclaimed "thirteen is our lucky number".
An Afternoon in the Garden is not possible without the cooperation of the Elmhurst Park District and its staff. Your assistance, advice and hard work are appreciated and key to our success.
Elmhurst Camera, enzee boutique, Petal Pushers, NuCare Pharmacy/Vallette and the Uptown Shop sold tickets. Local merchants displayed signs. The Elmhurst Doings, Elmhurst Independent, Elmhurst Press and Daily Herald published outstanding and informative features. The Chicago Tribune, Chicagoland Gardening and West Suburban Living magazines, the Community Bank of Elmhurst, the Elmhurst Park District and Elmhurst's Front Porch announced the event. Local artists, DiCianni Graphics, Trilobite Graphics, business sponsors, and many more produced the Garden Guidebook. Garden hosts, tea hosts, local musicians, club members and community members volunteered before, during and after the event. Individual donors gave generously and vendors and gardening experts delighted and informed.
A special thanks to Ace Hardware on First Street for their donation of a rain barrel and Karen Exiner (Karen's Kreations) for the artwork on it, and to Clover's Garden Center for donating the potted plants.
To the homeowners who graciously opened their garden gates, a heartfelt thank you for your hard work and willingness as you prepared your gardens for more than 700 guests who were inspired and informed.
The Garden Walk and Faire was a success beyond expectations. EGC will once again be able to provide scholarships to college students majoring in horticultural/science fields through our Mildred Hartney Scholarship Fund. We will also be able to continue to assist in local horticultural projects and begin a fund for a new project - the Children's Garden at the new Elmhurst Memorial Hospital.
On behalf of the Elmhurst Garden Club, thank you to all who made the 2008 Garden Walk and Faire a tremendous success!
