Media are letting McCain off the hook

Sen. John McCain has been complaining lately that the press isn't giving him enough attention, especially in comparison to his opponent, Sen. Barack Obama.

I think he may be right. When McCain was in the Middle East recently, he confused Shia and Sunni Muslims on three different occasions and sure enough, the press didn't pay much attention to his gross misunderstanding of this world hot spot.

When McCain told a town-hall meeting that he supported stem cell research, and then less than a week later told another town hall meeting that he was opposed to it, once again the press paid little attention.

And again, when McCain said that he has never supported privatization of Social Security and never would support it, and then two weeks later said that he was in favor of privatization, the press failed to pay much attention.

Although McCain now takes credit for the expansion of GI education benefits that he vehemently opposed, the press declines to pay any attention to his hypocrisy. In fact, despite McCain's best efforts to reverse his position on everything from Bush's tax cuts to the rich, to offshore drilling, to even his own immigration reform bill, the press just refuses to turn any significant attention to his parade of flip-flops.

What's the poor man to do? I sincerely hope that Sen. McCain will very shortly get his wish, and that the news media in our country will direct a proper amount of attention to him.

However, he may regret that he ever wished for it.
