Barrington Hills cops keep searching for clues in home invasion

Weeks after a team of robbers bound and gagged a Barrington Hills family at gunpoint, police have yet to make an arrest.

"We continue to work on the investigation," Barrington Hills Village President Robert Abboud said. "It's going to take quite a while."

Abboud reiterated that police are sifting through hundreds of leads and plenty of evidence, as the robbers spent close to 90 minutes in the early morning hours on Aug. 16 robbing the home near Bateman and Lake-Cook roads.

Police arrived after the house's alarm sounded at 2:24 a.m. The three masked robbers entered through an open basement window. They bound and gagged the victims, who were roughed up but not seriously hurt. The robbers took cash, electronics and jewelry.

"We've questioned plenty of people," Abboud said. "No one is in custody."

This week Elgin police arrested a 22-year-old man in connection to a similar robbery, and Barrington Hills police are looking for a possible link, Abboud said.

Donnell J. Lyle of 1055 Hunter Drive in Elgin was charged on Wednesday with two felony counts of home invasion and a felony count of robbery.

Police say late night on Aug. 22, Lyle was among five men who used duct tape to bind three children and a 63-year-old woman while pistolwhipping a 44-year-old man with a 9 mm gun. The men escaped with a variety of jewelry. Lyle on Friday remained in Kane County jail after a judge earlier set a $50,000 bond, jail officials said.

"We're very active in looking at this," Abboud said. "Anyone who might otherwise see a connection should let us know, please."

People with any information on the robbery should call Barrington Hills police at (847) 551-3006.
