Chicago man formally charged with murder

A Chicago man accused of setting up a shooting that killed his teenage neighbor to curry favor with the gunman has been formally charged with first-degree murder.

Cook County state's attorney's office spokeswoman Tandra Simonton said Wednesday that 19-year-old Willie Thompson was indicted on two counts of first-degree murder. Thompson, who is being held in lieu of $500,000 bond, will be arraigned September 15.

Thompson is charged in the death of 15-year-old Allan Komperda on July 30th. The teen answered the door of his home after Thompson allegedly rang the doorbell. Police say Komperda was shot by Thompson's accomplice.

Prosecutors say Thompson has admitted his role to police in a videotaped statement. Thompson admitted agreeing to help set up the murder because he wanted to be popular and have status with the shooter.

Police say no charges have been filed against the shooter.
