Sox won't rush Crede's return
Joe Crede was back in action for Class AAA Charlotte on Tuesday night.
On the disabled list since July 22 with back lumbar inflammation, Crede started his rehabilitation assignment with Charlotte on Aug. 1.
But after playing just one game, the White Sox' third baseman was sidelined with more back discomfort.
Playing against Indianapolis on Tuesday, Crede was 0-for-2 (1 strikeout) before calling it a night.
Manager Ozzie Guillen said there is no rush on Crede's return to the Sox.
"I'm going to make it clear," Guillen said. "I'm not going to bring Joe because he's Joe Crede. I'm going to bring Joe Crede because we need him. Joe is ready to play, bring him up, yeah. But the way (Juan) Uribe is playing and the way we're doing stuff, I'm not going to get Joe when he's 0-for-4, 0-for-8, 0-for-10, because he's Joe Crede. Right now, it's all about winning, and that's the more important thing."
Close shave: Toby Hall allegedly reinjured his right shoulder after trying to hit Jermaine Dye with a towel full of shaving cream during a TV interview Monday night.
After Dye blocked the attempt, Hall appeared to clutch the same shoulder he dislocated in spring training in 2007.
"The shoulder's fine," Hall said Tuesday. "I got hit by a foul tip the other day, and it's still sore. That's what I was feeling."
Manager Ozzie Guillen didn't have much to say about the incident.
"I like to have fun," Guillen said. "As long as they don't get hurt. Last night, someone told me it was Toby and something was going on there. I just let them do what they do as long as they respect each other and as long as they don't get mad when it happens."
Linebrink update: Injured reliever Scott Linebrink was encouraged after another throwing session Tuesday. The right-hander should be pitching off the mound by the end of the week.
"Linebrink said he feels better today," Ozzie Guillen said. "He feels good. He will have a sideline and we'll see what stage he's at."
Chelios appearance: Detroit Red Wings defenseman/Chicago native Chris Chelios is expected to be at U.S. Cellular Field on Friday when the White Sox play the Tampa Bay Rays. Chelios is going to bring a special guest - the Stanley Cup Trophy.
