Busy Brains volunteer fair: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 20 at Viking Park between routes 21 and 41 on Old Grand Avenue in Gurnee. Hosted by Busy Brains Children's Museum, the fair will allow attendees to meet with board members and committee chairs for marketing, fundraising and grants. Children are invited to attend as Busy Brains traveling exhibits will be on-site. Volunteer time commitments typically include a one-hour monthly committee meeting at night and helping staff the Busy Brains booth at community events. Blood Drive: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 23, Anderson Court, Building A, College of Lake County, 19351 W. Washington St., Grayslake. Donors must be 17 or older, weigh at least 110 pounds, be in good health and not have donated blood within 56 days. Donors will receive a mini-physical that includes a blood pressure check and iron-level count. The blood drive will be conducted on a walk-in basis. Donors should also bring a photo ID. Food for Fines: July 27 to Aug. 2, Indian Trails Public Library District, 355 S. Schoenbeck Road, Wheeling. The library welcomes all donated nonperishable food items; for every donated item, $1 will be waived in library fines. Food items must be in good condition, without dents and not in glass containers. Patrons can donate as many food items as they like. This program does not apply to fees for lost or damaged library items. For details, call Jennifer Koch, at (847) 279-2224.
