Golfers score $35,000 for ECC students
An afternoon of golf raised $35,000 for the Elgin Community College Foundation's efforts to assist students. Half of those funds from the ECC Foundation Golf Classic are going to help ECC's athletic programs.
"With so many of our student-athletes traveling to national tournaments in their sport, the Foundation's support is even more crucial," said Paul Dawson, acting executive director of the ECC Foundation and the college's managing director of facilities.
The remainder of the proceeds from the event, held June 23 at Elgin Country Club, is going into the Foundation Annual Fund, which awards more than $100,000 yearly to current and incoming ECC students.
In its 10th year, the event draws golfers to play a round of golf before enjoying dinner afterward. The event brought a record 148 golfers to try their luck at making a hole-in-one to win a car and other prizes.
