Punjabi Cultural Society of Chicago basketball tournament: 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Aug. 9 Palatine Park District, 250 W. Wood St., Palatine. Angels in the Fairway golf outing: Aug. 1, Grand Geneva Resort, 7036 Grand Geneva Way, Lake Geneva, Wis. Hosted by the Joey's Angels chapter of the Leukemia Research Foundation. Individual and noncorporate package is $350, which includes continental breakfast, lunch and dinner. Raffles, door prizes and a silent auction will also take place. Cardboard Boat Regatta: Check-in starts at 10 a.m., Aug. 2, Jones Island Beach, Grayslake. Teams design and build a human-powered boat made of corrugated cardboard that is capable of completing at least three heats around a 200-yard course. Heats begin at noon. The fee to compete in Class I (boats made entirely of corrugated cardboard propelled by paddles, oar, etc.) is $25, or $20 for the youth division (ages 14 and under). Class II (boats may be propelled by devices such as paddle wheel, propellers, sails, etc.) is $25. Class III (boats designed and built on site with provided materials (kits will be given out at 11 a.m.) is $30. Summer Sizzle Softball Tournament: Aug. 2; Heritage Park, Wheeling. Men's 16-inch tournament and men's 12-inch tournament is planned for those 18 years of age and older. Both tournaments follow Amateur Softball Association rules and a double-elimination format. Prize money will be awarded for first and second place. Registration is $200 per team. Chicago Shamrox Hot Rox Dance Team auditions: 8:15 a.m. Aug. 9, Holiday Inn Northwest, Elgin. The auditions will have two rounds. Women advancing past the first round of tryouts will perform in front of a live studio audience and be judged by a panel of celebrity judges. Fill out an application, submit at least one photo and a $25 audition fee. Dancers must be at least 18 as of Aug. 1.
