Elgin, West Dundee doctor busted in drug sting

An Elgin doctor with a practice in West Dundee has been accused of selling prescription drugs to an undercover cop, officials said today.

Dr. Irving M. Bush, 74, of 12N268 Switzer Road, Elgin, was indicted by a grand jury and charged with five counts of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance. He was arrested by Cook County Sheriff's Police about 8:40 a.m. today at his home.

Earlier this year, sheriff's officers learned Bush was illegally selling Xanax and Hydrocodone for cash and without issuing a prescription, police said. Xanax is used to treat anxiety and Hydrocodone is a pain reliever. Both drugs are only available by prescription.

After that, undercover sheriff's officers set up three meetings with Bush, who each time sold them varying amounts of the drugs, police said.

One time, the doctor met the officer in an Elgin restaurant to conduct the transaction and twice more in his West Dundee medical office, police said.

Cook County Sheriff's Police turned Bush over to Kane County authorities.
