Elgin

• A lawn mower was stolen last week from a backyard on the 300 block of East Chicago Street, police said. A maintenance worker who used the mower said he chained it to a post in the yard Thursday evening. One of the links on the chain had been broken when the 71-year-old West Dundee man who owns the property discovered the mower missing at 2:30 p.m. Friday.

• A wallet containing $900 in cash and several credit cards was stolen from an Iowa woman Friday in the Grand Victoria Casino, police said. The woman said she was gambling on the slot machines around 5:15 p.m. when she took out $20 from her wallet and put the wallet back in her purse. Fifteen minutes later, her wallet was gone. The casino said video surveillance showed the wallet fell out of the 41-year-old woman's purse onto the floor. Another woman picked up the wallet and handed it to a man she was with before they both left the casino.

• Gina Marie Angelini, 38, of 509 W. South St., Plano, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after police found a smoking pipe in her possession during a traffic stop around 3:45 p.m. Thursday at Dexter Court and Center Street. Police discovered the 2001 Saturn Angelini was driving was reported stolen and turned the case over to South Elgin police.

• A South Elgin man was charged with aggravated assault Thursday after Elgin police arrested him on a warrant, police said. Douglas Taylor, 41, of 8N620 McLean Blvd., was also charged with unlawful use of a weapon and disorderly conduct. Taylor was unable to post $1,000 bond and was taken to Kane County jail Friday. He is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 12.
