Get a look-see at new water treatment plant

Geneva residents have a chance Saturday to see what their $22 million paid for, as the city shows off its new water treatment facility at an open house from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.

The plant, at 4000 Keslinger Road near Peck Road, started pumping water to Geneva customers in April.

One of the features Geneva workers are most proud of is the reverse-osmosis membrane filtering system that removes minerals from the well water. It is supposed to be dropping water hardness from 30 grains per liter to no more than seven grains, meaning customers don't have to use as much water softener salt in their homes, if any at all.

The plant was designed to look like a barn, fitting in with the agricultural nature of land west of Peck Road. The site also contains recreational trails, and houses the Kane County Animal Control building.

Children are welcome to take the tour, but must be closely supervised since the plant will be in operation.
