Man accused of torching baby raccoon

A Cook County judge has ordered a Chicago man held in lieu of $250,000 bail for allegedly torturing a live baby raccoon by pouring gasoline on it and lighting it on fire.

At Thursday's bond hearing, authorities said 30-year-old Roger Davidson was taken into custody by Chicago police on Wednesday after officers allegedly observed him chasing a small object that was on fire. When police got closer, they noticed the man running after the animal and pouring gasoline on it.

Andy Conklin, a spokesman for the Cook County State's Attorney's office, said the animal was euthanized a short time later.

Davidson was charged with one count of animal torture. He faces 2 to 5 years in prison if convicted.
