Briefs: See fireworks today

You don't have to wait until Friday to see a fireworks display. Mount Prospect will put on fireworks shows at dusk both this evening and Friday at Melas Park at Busse and Central Roads. Two area displays are also planned for Thursday at Arlington Park in Arlington Heights after the day's races are over, and at Palatine Community Park in Palatine. Buffalo Grove, Elk Grove Village, Hoffman Estates, Des Plaines, Rolling Meadows, Roselle and Wheeling are among the area communities hosting fireworks displays.

Bargain days at fest:

Bargain bracelet days at Frontier Days in Arlington Heights will be Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Bracelets are $20 per person. The Frontier Days festival starts at 5 p.m. tonight and continues through July 6. Admission is free. The festival is located at Recreation Park three blocks east of Arlington Heights Road on Miner Street.

Register for Feet Fest now:

Registration is on now for the 5th annual 3K Family Fun Run/Walk, which takes place at 9:30 a.m. Aug. 24 at Towne Square during Palatine's Street Fest. Registration forms are available at the Community Center, 250 E. Wood St., and Birchwood Recreation Center, 435 W. Illinois Ave., or online at palatineparks.org. Pre-race registration, available through Aug. 20, is $10 for residents and $15 for nonresidents and includes a T-shirt and goody bag. Race day registration is $5 extra.
