3 arrested after chase, gunfire

COLLINSVILLE -- Authorities in the Metro East say three people are in custody, suspected of shooting a high-powered rifle at a Madison County sheriff's deputy who tried to stop their stolen car.

Investigators say no one was injured in the gunfire Monday near Collinsville.

Authorities say the confrontation later involved a chase that reached speeds of more than 100 miles per hour before the suspects' car stopped in a mobile home park.

One of the suspects was found in a wooded area, while the other two were found hiding with several weapons under a mobile home.

Their car had been reported stolen out of Ohio.

Charges are pending.
