Smoker wakes when pants catch on fire
A house fire Thursday night in Algonquin was apparently ignited by a resident who fell asleep while smoking, officials said.
Algonquin-Lake in the Hills firefighters saw flames at 10:45 p.m. coming from a bedroom in the rear of the single-story home at 4510 Linden St., officials said.
The lone resident, who got out of the house before firefighters arrived, told officers that he believed he had fallen asleep while smoking.
The resident said he woke because his pants leg was on fire.
The resident was taken to a hospital for evaluation,
Fire officials continue to investigate the cause and a damage estimate was not available.
