Elgin
• A witness to a traffic accident at 10 p.m. Tuesday at Shales Parkway and Bode Road told police the driver of one of the vehicles stopped, picked up his front bumper off the street, placed it in his Jeep Cherokee and drove off. Anthony DiLorenzo, 41, of 443 E. Chicago St., Elgin, was charged with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, police said. He was cited for failure to yield and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. He also was wanted on Elgin warrants for disorderly conduct and possession of marijuana, police said. When Kane County Judge Kevin Busch asked DiLorenzo on Wednesday why he missed a previously scheduled court appearance, DiLorenzo replied, "God told me not to go." Judge Busch said, "That was probably bad advice." DiLorenzo was unable to post a $1,000 bond and remained in the Elgin lockup Wednesday afternoon. He is scheduled to appear in court in Elgin on Aug. 4 and in St. Charles on Aug. 12.
• Since she had been arrested twice before in the last month for retail thefts, a woman's charge was enhanced after she was accused of shoplifting $109.23 worth of items at 6:45 p.m. Monday from CVS Pharmacy, 500 Dundee Ave., police said. Sarah Bates, 21, of 314 Park St., Elgin, was charged with felony retail theft, police said. Bates was unable to post a $2,000 bond and was taken to the Kane County jail. Her next court date is on Aug. 8 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
•A 3-foot-tall stone statue of a lion valued at $50 was stolen between 10 p.m. Monday and 7:45 a.m. Tuesday from the 1100 block of Cobblers Crossing.
• A window screen was cut on a home on the 300 block of Park Street and the residence was entered and ransacked between 10 p.m. Monday and 5:30 a.m. Tuesday. Approximately 14 model cars, jewelry from a jewelry box, a laptop computer a television set, two PlayStation 3s and keys to a 2001 Ford van were stolen. Police said the van also was missing.
South Elgin
• Police arrested a South Elgin man Tuesday evening on an outstanding warrant. Jason Miller, 34, of 380 Ann St., was charged on the warrant with aggravated battery, police said. Miller said the incident occurred in a bar on the 800 block of North LaFox Street, He was unable to post a $3,000 bond and was taken to the Kane County jail. His next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 7 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
