Aurora man killed in Batavia crash

An Aurora man died Saturday after swerving off the road on Route 31 in Batavia and striking a utility pole, police said.

Juan Chavez, 22, of Aurora, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, police officials released Monday morning.

The accident took place at Route 31, near Walnut Street, at about 9:35 a.m.

Police said witnesses reported a 1995 Chevrolet Monte Carlo driving at a high rate of speed, swerving from lane to lane, while heading northbound on Route 31 before the car drove off the road and hit the pole.

The accident remains under investigation by Batavia Police and the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team.
