Dundee Township library notes
The Dundee Township Public Library in East Dundee will host a "Meet the Artist" reception for Mort Luby, a well-known artist and resident of Carpentersville. The reception will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. today in the Ruth M. Wendt Gallery.
The prolific artist, who retired from a successful career as a journalist and magazine publisher, spends about 50 hours each week in his home-based studio painting in his favorite media, oils and watercolors. He has won numerous awards, including three best-of-show citations, and describes his art as American impressionism.
While much of his work features landscapes ranging from local spots such as the Fox River or Lords Park in Elgin to Tuscan villas and the shores of Maui, Luby delights in using vibrant colors and bold strokes to capture whatever subject catches his eye.
One of his paintings, "Tom Hanks in Dundee," was created when the "Road to Perdition" was filmed in West Dundee, and now hangs in the West Dundee Village Hall.
Plan on meeting Mort Luby at the "Meet the Artist" reception, which is open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
