Kudos from farm organization
Lake County Farm Bureau issued a statement Monday applauding the village of Grayslake for shifting its public works vehicles from petroleum-based fuel to a biodiesel blend. Grayslake's B20 blend is made from 80 percent petroleum diesel and 20 percent biodiesel. "For many years, we have worked to educate the public, municipalities and fleet managers about the benefits of biodiesel not only to the farmers in Lake County, but to the environment as well," said Greg Koeppen, Lake County Farm Bureau executive director. "It's exciting to see our message is being heard and applied." Soybean oil is part of the biodiesel blend. Biodiesel proponents say it's environmentally friendly.

Game store robbed
George Toney, 25, of Waukegan, was charged with armed robbery in connection with an incident Saturday morning at the GameStop store in the Fountain Square plaza about a mile east of Route 120 and the Tri-State Tollway. Waukegan police said Toney loitered in the store for about 10 minutes, then pulled a pistol and demanded the clerk give him money from a register. Toney received the cash after firing the gun into a wall, said authorities. Toney also is accused of snatching a game system, minus a power cord and controller, in the robbery about 11 a.m., police said. Cops were called at 12:40 p.m. to another GameStop at 1515 Lewis Ave. when a clerk reported a man wanting to buy a cord and controller. Police said they arrested Toney after he departed the Lewis Avenue store. Police said an undisclosed amount of cash and the robbery weapon were recovered. Toney is being held on $250,000 bond in the Lake County jail in Waukegan.
