'Wonka' coming to Navy Pier
Another 'Ado'
Nick Sandys and Melissa Carlson play the witty, would-be lovers in First Folio Shakespeare Festival's production of Shakespeare's delicious comedy "Much Ado About Nothing." The latest production in a season replete with them, First Folio's version, directed by Michael Goldberg and set during the 19th century, promises to be a most faithful of adaptation.
Previews begin Tuesday at Mayslake Peabody Estate, 1717 W. 31st St. Oak Brook. The play opens July 11. (630) 986-8067 or firstfolio.org.
'Wonka' on the Pier
Chicago Shakespeare Theatre transfers "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory," the 1971 film of Roald Dahl's classic children's novel to its stage. Sean Fortunato plays the candy-maker and newcomer Patrick Andrews (of ACT's "Speech and Debate") plays Charlie in the family-friendly musical.
Performances begin Tuesday at Navy Pier, 800 E. Grand Ave., Chicago. (312) 595-5600 or chicagoshakes.com.
