Palatine shouldn't secede from county

If it goes as far as steps will be taken to have Palatine secede from Cook County and it does happen, think of the consequences for the homeowners and seniors who would be forfeiting the Cook County homeowners exemption, senior citizen exemption and senior freeze on their property taxes.

This action would have to be voted for by the voters of Palatine and also approved by the state of Illinois.

No one likes the recent sales tax hike imposed on us, but having the exemptions mentioned above forfeited for the sake of a sales tax hike from 9 percent to 10 percent is not logical thinking.

The only people who would benefit from seceding from Cook County are the businesses located in Palatine.

If this proposal comes to a vote, I urge you to vote "no" on seceding from Cook County.
