Bright future for historical museum
The future is bright for the DuPage County Historical Museum. In the spirit of collaboration, the DuPage County Board and the Wheaton Park District have come together and developed a plan that benefits both governments, and will ensure the museum remains open for future generations to enjoy. As part of this agreement, the park district will maintain a downtown presence for its core staff and provide a new venue for programming for children and adults. The county will maintain ownership of the museum building and its collections. The museum board, appointed by the county and the park district, will develop a strategic plan to set priorities and goals.
In employing aggressive marketing and fundraising campaigns, the museum will bring in new visitors and the necessary resources to update displays and maintain collections appropriately. The residents of DuPage County, and especially those DuPage history enthusiasts who have longed for a museum that lives up to its potential, are the real winners of this agreement.
This partnership is an excellent example of different units of government coming together for the benefit of the public and the most efficient and effective use of tax dollars.
