Man wakes up Arlington Heights couple during burglary attempt
An Arlington Heights couple woke up to find a strange man in their bedroom doorway at about 10 p.m. on Friday, according to police.
The couple lives in the 400 block of East Burr Oak Drive in the Northgate subdivision, said Cmdr. Nick Pechora of the Arlington Heights Police Department.
"Evidently the couple had been on vacation and returned home a few days early," he said. "They went to bed that night and woke up surprised to find a man standing in their bedroom door."
The man was holding a flashlight, Pechora said.
After he saw the couple, he ran out of the house. Police believe he entered and left the home via a window on the first floor which was left open, Pechora said. All the doors of the home were locked, he said.
Police spent about an hour searching the neighborhood with a police dog but were unable to locate the man, Pechora said.
Police have no description of the man. It's not known if he stole any items before he escaped, Pechora said.
Anyone with information should call the Arlington Heights Police Department at (847) 368-5300.
